Context

ISERCO was contacted by one of its customers in the plastics industry, specializing in masterbatches. The customer wanted to purchase 4 new bag hoppers for emptying plastic granules.

The purpose solution

The customer’s set of bags emptying equipment includes two hopper types.

The first 3 bag hoppers are made up of:

  • Each hopper has a volume of 0.3m³, is square-shaped and has an internal polish of <0.8μm.
  • A bag emptying compartment with removable grids.
  • A vertically opening door providing access to the inside of the hopper. Handles are fitted on either side of the door for easy handling. Opening and closing are secured by gas struts. These keep the door in the open position without the risk of it closing suddenly. The access door has 2 safety catches with hooks to ensure it closes properly. The door is sealed with an EPDM seal. Finally, 2 removable door hinges are fitted to the top of the door for easy maintenance and cleaning.
  • 2 removable grids (20 x 20 mesh) that can be removed for easier access to the inside of each bin. There are hooks on the outside for hanging the grids.
  • 2 transparent plexiglas windows for light. One is located above the hopper and the other is on the access door.
  • A removable sensor mounting bracket is located above each hopper.
  • A probe port is located behind each hopper.
  • 2 nozzles at the rear of the hoppers, inclined at 20°. These allow the plastic granules to be evacuated using drop-edge aspiration tubes. The outlets can be closed with end plates when the bag hoppers are not in use.

The 4th bag hopper has almost all the features described above. Its main difference from the other 3 is the outlet. The 2 rear connections for the suction tube have been replaced by a single central outlet. This allows connection to the process from below.

Finally, one of the common features of these 4 bag emptying stations presented above is their removable parts. To facilitate access and cleaning, these hoppers are fitted with removable parts such as the door, grids, and transparent Plexiglas windows.

In terms of surface treatment, all these bag emptying stations were stripped and passivated on the outside by micro-blasting. The interior was treated with SUBLIMOTION-process®.
