Context

Iserco intervened for a company specialized in the manufacture of plastic materials (plastic for food and technical plastic) needing a big bag and bags filling system for the installation of a new twin screw extruder.

Iserco was to supply an installation including a finished product silo, a big bag, bag filling station, and a complete steel structure.

A constraint to consider is that the finished product can emit dust, which in a confined atmosphere is potentially explosive. Another problem in this project was the space available at the customer’s site to accommodate the future installation.

The proposed solution

The ISERCO big bag filling station is located at the end of the process, when the plastic beads are being conditioned. It is a 2 parts installation delivered with its steel frame.

The installation proposed by Iserco to meet the customer’s request is as follows:

  • The product arrives in a finished product silo by pneumatic transport. This silo acts as a buffer space before the plastic granules are conditioned in the big bags. A ladder is located inside this silo to facilitate access if necessary. The silo is also equipped with a nozzle to add nitrogen to avoid the risk of explosion.
  • Then the plastic is transferred by a feeder pipe to the filling station. It is possible to direct the product to 2 different outlets. This choice is made via a touch screen automaton. The operator decides to direct the product either to an outlet for filling a bag or to an outlet for filling a big bag. The opening and closing of the butterfly valve are directed automatically, according to the operator’s request.
  • The big bag filling station has a mobile steel apron equipped with a double acting pneumatic cylinder.

The connection between the big bag filling sleeve and the station is made with the Iserco Clean Connect. This is a watertight system that prevents any loss of product. This Clean Connect has a double skinned filling head allowing the connection of a suction system.

In addition to this, a pre-forming fan prevents the big bag fabric from folding and guarantees an optimal filling.

Finally, this station has a steel densification table equipped with 2 unbalanced motors. One of the specificities of this table is that it is embedded in the ground. This process is usual for this customer. It allows easier access to remove the pallet with the big bag. In addition, this process saves space in height on the complete installation.

The powders are conditioned perfectly with a big bag filling system adapted to the customer’s needs. In addition to the quality of the design and manufacture of the device, the smooth operation of this system is also due to the close collaboration between Iserco and its customer.
